Personal Biography

Latonya Savage is a prominent figure in Baltimore, known for her dedication to community service and youth development. As the proprietor of Di-J’s Hair, Skin & Nails Salon in Northwest Baltimore City, Mrs. Savage has also founded a non-profit program, The Y.E.S. Club, Inc. (Young Educated Sisters), in 2002. This initiative was inspired by her desire to enhance her six-year-old daughter's educational experience and extend similar opportunities to other children.

Believing firmly in the adage, “Train up a child and when he/she is old he/she will not depart from it,” Mrs. Savage focuses on cultivating young minds to recognize their inherent worth and potential. The Y.E.S. Club began at Liberty Recreation Center and evolved into a human service elective offered in many elementary and middle schools across Baltimore City. The program, now including young men as Young Educated Sisters and Scholars, aims to expose youth to cultural events and activities, fostering a belief that their dreams are achievable.

Latonya Savage's community-driven efforts have earned her numerous accolades and opportunities. She has directed the Y.E.S. Club Summer Academy, created the MLK Inspiring Dreams Young Ladies Summit, and received the BTU’s MLK Breakfast award, Fox 45 Champion of Courage award, and Dunkin Donut Community Hero Award. She has initiated several impactful programs, including Girl Talk, One Love Conference, and sponsoring youth to visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture and the Black Panther movie screening. Additionally, she authored “Beautiful Day,” a children’s book promoting diversity and self-esteem, and continues to facilitate summer camps and community programs.

Despite her busy schedule, Mrs. Savage prioritizes quality time with her family, whom she describes as her cheering squad: her husband of 33 years, Shawn, and their three children, Joshua, Diamond, and Jordan, along with their three grandchildren. The family is actively involved in the New Psalmist Baptist Church under Bishop Walter Scott Thomas, Sr., where she leads the g2W Ministry (girls to women ages 11-17).

Latonya Savage’s unwavering commitment to empowering youth and her extensive community involvement make her an invaluable asset to Positive Steps, LLC, and the broader Baltimore community.
